<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:37</time>
<p>isn't much that I need to do to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:39</time>
<p>introduce one of the most famous</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:40</time>
<p>locations in America the National Mall</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:43</time>
<p>in Washington DC it's full of History so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:45</time>
<p>Jen Let's Just Jump Right In sure where</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:48</time>
<p>did we start so the mall you know people</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:50</time>
<p>when I say the DC Mall people are always</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:52</time>
<p>like the shopping mall but that's what</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:54</time>
<p>we refer to as that big grassy area in</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:58</time>
<p>Washington DC that's kind of it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:01</time>
<p>adorned with monuments and markers to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:04</time>
<p>the people who have shaped this country</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:06</time>
<p>and it's visited by over</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:11</time>
<p>25 million people a year yeah like it is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:14</time>
<p>and it's free so you can walk around you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:17</time>
<p>can go at any time and it's beautiful</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:18</time>
<p>it's clean it's well kept yes and tons</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:21</time>
<p>of History so we started at the Thomas</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:25</time>
<p>Jefferson Memorial yeah and I had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:27</time>
<p>actually never been there before that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:29</time>
<p>was my first time too and so you see it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:31</time>
<p>you know you can always go oh there it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:32</time>
<p>is but I had never actually gone inside</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:34</time>
<p>and it's beautiful so it's a huge statue</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:37</time>
<p>of Thomas Jefferson inside he's bronze</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:40</time>
<p>and then the outside of the pillars and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:43</time>
<p>and we went during the cherry blossoms</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:45</time>
<p>oh it was gorgeous so right around it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:47</time>
<p>was it was so pretty like everything was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:49</time>
<p>in full bloom and there was petals</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:51</time>
<p>everywhere it was awesome it was awesome</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:53</time>
<p>so when I say Title Basin it's that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:56</time>
<p>curve of the mall around because it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:58</time>
<p>basically kind of like a big almost like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:01</time>
<p>a l more like a u yes yes and that's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:03</time>
<p>when people say the cherry blossoms on</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:05</time>
<p>the tidal base and that's what they mean</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:06</time>
<p>but Jefferson was the third president</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:09</time>
<p>that Monument was built for from 1939 to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:12</time>
<p>1943 under FDR and it really goes into</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:16</time>
<p>it but they have like a bunch of like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:18</time>
<p>his sayings around him things that he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:20</time>
<p>wrote and it celebrates him as more than</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:23</time>
<p>just president but like a scientist an</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:25</time>
<p>inventor an architect like the pillars</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:28</time>
<p>on the outsider his architectural idea</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:31</time>
<p>yeah and so it kind of is more to him</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:35</time>
<p>than just the president but of course</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:36</time>
<p>it's he's the author of the Declaration</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:38</time>
<p>of Independence so they have that on the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:40</time>
<p>wall it's um the statue is 19 feet yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:44</time>
<p>and it was a lot bigger thousand pounds</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:46</time>
<p>like it's huge and you can actually see</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:49</time>
<p>it at night you could if you kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:51</time>
<p>look through the pillars you can see the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:53</time>
<p>statue in there it's it's lit up but</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:55</time>
<p>he's holding the Declaration in his hand</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:57</time>
<p>so that's what he's standing there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:59</time>
<p>holding but it was and the statue was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:02</time>
<p>dedicated I think like in 1947 so after</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:05</time>
<p>FDR so the the monument was there first</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:08</time>
<p>and then they put in the Statue yeah now</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:10</time>
<p>it was it was really really cool and and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:13</time>
<p>we actually went to kind of give the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:15</time>
<p>larger picture of like how we were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:17</time>
<p>filming this I mean we did this with our</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:19</time>
<p>kids yes we did this with family my mom</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:21</time>
<p>and the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:23</time>
<p>um electric electric wheelchair electric</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:25</time>
<p>wheelchair although she wasn't she</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:26</time>
<p>didn't start there with us so I so I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:28</time>
<p>actually dropped her off it was a lot</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:30</time>
<p>and then kind of like hoofed it from</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:33</time>
<p>Lincoln down to the Jefferson Memorial</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:36</time>
<p>in my steel-toed boots which actually</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:38</time>
<p>like it gave me issues later that I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:40</time>
<p>suffered for so that's advice I always</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:43</time>
<p>try to give people in Washington DC</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:45</time>
<p>because you can see everything yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:48</time>
<p>pretty clearly you think it's closer</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:50</time>
<p>than it actually is and it's not that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:53</time>
<p>close I think it's about I want to say</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:55</time>
<p>it's about a mile mile and a half</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:57</time>
<p>between the Lincoln Memorial and the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:59</time>
<p>Jefferson Memorial oh I believe it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:01</time>
<p>because there have been so many times I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:02</time>
<p>I've seen the Washington monuments so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:05</time>
<p>the big obelisk in the middle of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:08</time>
<p>Washington and I'm like oh that's not</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:10</time>
<p>far we can make it there no problem and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:12</time>
<p>you'll be walking for like 20 minutes</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:13</time>
<p>yeah and you're not even closer and it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:16</time>
<p>looks yeah I think we walked to I think</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:18</time>
<p>I probably walked because I did a bunch</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:20</time>
<p>of extra right dropping your mom off and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:21</time>
<p>then come and get you guys and then</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:23</time>
<p>walking back and all this stuff I mean I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:25</time>
<p>probably walked jogged whatever and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:27</time>
<p>still took boots for like five or six</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:29</time>
<p>maybe seven miles that day and that's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:31</time>
<p>good advice because it is very walkable</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:34</time>
<p>yes and that is the best way to see it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:36</time>
<p>because you can't really drive from</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:38</time>
<p>Monument to Monument yeah it's not an</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:41</time>
<p>easy City to drive and there are there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:43</time>
<p>are folks who bike around a little bit</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:45</time>
<p>but it's it's I would say it's probably</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:48</time>
<p>better to walk because you kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:49</time>
<p>really get the experience and especially</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:51</time>
<p>more going through what's the next</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:53</time>
<p>Monument we walk through which is FDR</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:54</time>
<p>which is awesome it was really cool if</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:57</time>
<p>you haven't seen the FDR monument yet I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:59</time>
<p>definitely recommend getting out there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:00</time>
<p>it was only built in 1997 and in 2001</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:04</time>
<p>they actually put a cloak around FDR to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:08</time>
<p>kind of I wouldn't say hide the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:10</time>
<p>wheelchair but they wanted to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:14</time>
<p>you know we emphasize it de-emphasize it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:17</time>
<p>yeah so they put the cloak around that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:20</time>
<p>but it was it's dedicated to his four</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:23</time>
<p>terms of office and it's basically a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:25</time>
<p>walking Monument so you walk through</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:27</time>
<p>each term</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:29</time>
<p>and as we walked it backwards but if you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:32</time>
<p>walk it forward like you're supposed to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:34</time>
<p>yeah if you're walking from the Lincoln</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:36</time>
<p>Memorial to the Jefferson that's the way</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:39</time>
<p>you should walk it yeah and that goal</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:40</time>
<p>will go in sequence of his time in</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:42</time>
<p>office and they'll have different kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:44</time>
<p>of monuments they have his Fireside</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:46</time>
<p>Chats yeah that's cool they have people</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:48</time>
<p>standing in line for the depression the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:50</time>
<p>bread lines the bread lines and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:53</time>
<p>they what's really neat is they um they</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:57</time>
<p>have a water feature that was cool and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:59</time>
<p>the water will get more and more complex</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:03</time>
<p>as his terms go on right because as his</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:07</time>
<p>presidency goes on he's going to take</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:09</time>
<p>America into World War II yeah and it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:11</time>
<p>going to get more and more difficult and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:13</time>
<p>complex and so that's what that water</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:15</time>
<p>feature is supposed yeah that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:17</time>
<p>something that I had I'd seen it before</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:19</time>
<p>I had been to the mall before but I had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:21</time>
<p>never heard that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:22</time>
<p>um and the kind of the reasoning behind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:24</time>
<p>that and and so I actually specifically</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:26</time>
<p>kind of looked for it and the water</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:27</time>
<p>wasn't running while we were there no</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:29</time>
<p>but it but you could still tell yes it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:31</time>
<p>was really neat so he's our 32nd</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:33</time>
<p>president you know being assisted</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:34</time>
<p>through the Depression and World War II</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:36</time>
<p>has four terms the only president to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:38</time>
<p>have four terms now you're not allowed</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:40</time>
<p>to have four terms but he and it was a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:44</time>
<p>rarity even then because he wanted to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:45</time>
<p>bring America through the war yeah he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:48</time>
<p>felt like he got you know he was with</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:50</time>
<p>America in the beginning and he wanted</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:51</time>
<p>to see it through yeah so that was why</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:54</time>
<p>he served four terms yeah and being</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:56</time>
<p>there again I'm gonna foot stomp this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:59</time>
<p>because if anybody listening to this can</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:00</time>
<p>pick a time to go go in the cherry</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:03</time>
<p>blossoms are are in bloom which is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:05</time>
<p>april-ish that's where we went over</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:07</time>
<p>there right around Easter spring break</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:09</time>
<p>time frame</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:10</time>
<p>um I think it gives you a completely</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:13</time>
<p>different experience being there with</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:16</time>
<p>those cherry blossoms</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:18</time>
<p>um and again me being the kind of more</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:19</time>
<p>cinematic camera guy like I loved it it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:21</time>
<p>was great it was just gorgeous to shoot</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:23</time>
<p>yes and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:25</time>
<p>it like I said this it's open air rooms</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:28</time>
<p>big Grand and they have some of his</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:30</time>
<p>famous speeches and things that he said</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:33</time>
<p>quotes yeah I think they had his wife</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:36</time>
<p>there yeah Eleanor Roosevelt has her own</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:38</time>
<p>statue of course because she was such an</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:41</time>
<p>influential first lady but just a lot of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:43</time>
<p>quotes that he had said and and I think</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:47</time>
<p>there's almost a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:50</time>
<p>a touching wall remember we just talked</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:53</time>
<p>about that yeah like a braille yes like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:55</time>
<p>a braille so they were talking about</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:56</time>
<p>disabilities and handicaps and trying to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:59</time>
<p>embracing that yeah so there was a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:01</time>
<p>braille wall which back then was not</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:03</time>
<p>embraced no that's why they are they</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:05</time>
<p>kind of hit it yeah he tried not to have</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:07</time>
<p>any pictures taken of him in the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:09</time>
<p>wheelchair and that's why the front of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:10</time>
<p>the Resolute desk was put on so people</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:13</time>
<p>wouldn't see him in the wheelchair and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:14</time>
<p>at the time the Press was very</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:16</time>
<p>accommodating to that for him yeah it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:18</time>
<p>would be that way nowadays but uh yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:20</time>
<p>it was it was that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:23</time>
<p>I don't know if that was my favorite one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:25</time>
<p>but that was up there it was pretty cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:26</time>
<p>it was pretty neat well the next one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:28</time>
<p>Martin Luther King I had never seen</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:29</time>
<p>before</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:30</time>
<p>[Music]</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:34</time>
<p>so I hadn't either because it's not a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:36</time>
<p>lot of these you can kind of see from</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:38</time>
<p>the road right the Jefferson Memorial</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:40</time>
<p>Lincoln Memorial the Washington Monument</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:42</time>
<p>but the the MLK one it's it's I wouldn't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:44</time>
<p>say it's tucked away it's just not</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:46</time>
<p>easily viewable from the road it has a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:48</time>
<p>great view of the tidal base then yes</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:49</time>
<p>but you have to walk over to it and it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:52</time>
<p>neat it's kind of like he's coming out</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:53</time>
<p>of the mountain it's like he's cut out</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:55</time>
<p>of the mountain moving forward and it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:58</time>
<p>that's also a new one 2011. it's called</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:02</time>
<p>the stone of Hope</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:04</time>
<p>it's 30 feet high and he's only the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:07</time>
<p>fourth non-president to be memorialized</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:10</time>
<p>on the mall yeah I didn't I didn't know</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:11</time>
<p>that either so as we're we're doing this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:13</time>
<p>and you're kind of telling me about it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:15</time>
<p>almost as like a warm-up for you to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:17</time>
<p>actually put say it on camera</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:19</time>
<p>um I mean I was learning things left and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:21</time>
<p>right you know I got to see all his like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:23</time>
<p>super famous quotes yes right so so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:25</time>
<p>walking up to it there's like a bunch of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:27</time>
<p>his famous quotes from his speeches and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:29</time>
<p>stuff like that that are kind of carved</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:31</time>
<p>into the wall so it's you're walking up</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:34</time>
<p>to the and then here he is like kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:36</time>
<p>like you said it's it you can tell it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:38</time>
<p>it's kind of yeah he's 30 feet high</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:40</time>
<p>intended to to kind of be coming out of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:42</time>
<p>this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:43</time>
<p>um this Stone embankment which then</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:46</time>
<p>you'll then walk behind them yes you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:48</time>
<p>know on to the next one but uh the MLK</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:51</time>
<p>one was it was really really neat and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:52</time>
<p>you did say that there's a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:54</time>
<p>some people kind of said that there was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:56</time>
<p>a little bit of controversy because the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:58</time>
<p>marble the stone is white it's white so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:00</time>
<p>I had you know when I went to grad</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:02</time>
<p>school at the University of Memphis uh</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:04</time>
<p>we had talked about this monument and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:07</time>
<p>some of my fellow</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:08</time>
<p>cohort in my class who were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:10</time>
<p>African-Americans said why why would you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:13</time>
<p>have a monument to Martin Luther King</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:14</time>
<p>and make it white and I never thought</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:16</time>
<p>about that but it's true it is that's a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:19</time>
<p>good point bright white yeah yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:22</time>
<p>um but do you know the other three</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:23</time>
<p>people who are uh on the mall that are</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:26</time>
<p>not presidents I did when I was making</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:28</time>
<p>the video a year ago I do not anymore so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:31</time>
<p>John Paul Jones that's right uh John</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:34</time>
<p>Erickson</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:35</time>
<p>kind of like a forefather of America and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:37</time>
<p>George Mason</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:39</time>
<p>to America yeah good old jpj father of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:43</time>
<p>the Navy</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:44</time>
<p>I know</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:46</time>
<p>MLK is Korea yeah so you kind of walk</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:49</time>
<p>behind MLK and then you will kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:51</time>
<p>walk along the path over towards the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:54</time>
<p>Korean and you'll be walking and you'll</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:56</time>
<p>see these the Korean memorial is so cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:00</time>
<p>it was um it was built in 1982 to 19 uh</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:05</time>
<p>1992 to 1995 and it's called the column</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:08</time>
<p>because it's supposed to be men walking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:11</time>
<p>in a column as if they're on patrol and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:14</time>
<p>their life size yeah so it's so nice and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:17</time>
<p>you can kind of you can kind of walk</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:18</time>
<p>between them yeah it's really cool and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:21</time>
<p>it's 19 men 14 Army three Marine Corps</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:23</time>
<p>One navy one Air Force oh representation</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:26</time>
<p>and it's just there have like their</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:28</time>
<p>ponchos it looks like it's harsh weather</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:30</time>
<p>because Korea was harsh weather and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:33</time>
<p>they're walking through yeah yeah it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:36</time>
<p>just it's such a neat Memorial I think</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:39</time>
<p>because it's so life-like to be yeah you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:42</time>
<p>that that one you almost feel like it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:45</time>
<p>trying to take you there more than more</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:47</time>
<p>than anything else more than any of the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:49</time>
<p>other monuments in my opinion because</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:51</time>
<p>it's it's really it's almost more about</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:54</time>
<p>the scene than it is about any specific</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:56</time>
<p>person yes and I think because they call</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:59</time>
<p>it the Forgotten War yeah because most</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:01</time>
<p>people forget Korea because it's it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:03</time>
<p>relatively fast lifespan-wise right like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:06</time>
<p>mash they say about the Korean war was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:08</time>
<p>longer yeah than the actual career</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:10</time>
<p>that's right yeah and so I think when</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:13</time>
<p>you when you walk through it like that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:15</time>
<p>you're like wow I feel like a part of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:18</time>
<p>this yeah it's a very very neat Monument</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:21</time>
<p>I really like it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:22</time>
<p>um I they said 1.5 million people</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:25</time>
<p>actually served in the Korean War so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:27</time>
<p>it's dedicated to everyone who served so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:29</time>
<p>there are pictures etched in and you can</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:32</time>
<p>see and they do that again</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:33</time>
<p>representation it's all services and you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:36</time>
<p>see women and you see everybody this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:39</time>
<p>kind of like depicts moments from the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:41</time>
<p>Korean War yeah and that's really cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:43</time>
<p>to see too yeah it was a neat one and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:47</time>
<p>again we were we were there and it was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:49</time>
<p>you know spring break April time frame</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:51</time>
<p>you know so there was a fair amount of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:52</time>
<p>people out but you could still I mean</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:54</time>
<p>when you if you see the video I still</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:57</time>
<p>got pretty good oh sure Vantage Point</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:59</time>
<p>yeah it was it wasn't super crowded or</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:01</time>
<p>anything like that and after that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:03</time>
<p>Lincoln yeah which the Lincoln Morris</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:06</time>
<p>I don't that might be one of the biggest</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:08</time>
<p>just kind of just area wise ones on the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:11</time>
<p>entire mall and that's what people want</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:13</time>
<p>to go that's that's so cool it's so cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:15</time>
<p>and and who did we see when we were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:17</time>
<p>there so so we saw and I didn't I didn't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:20</time>
<p>even notice it and I think you did be</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:22</time>
<p>more I think he more heard his voice so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:24</time>
<p>we saw a very famous actor yes we did</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:26</time>
<p>what would we see Denzel Washington</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:28</time>
<p>that's right we heard him and we saw him</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:30</time>
<p>I think did he like look at us and wave</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:32</time>
<p>at us no I don't think he waved at us I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:34</time>
<p>think Jr and Tiffany my brother yeah so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:37</time>
<p>they went over and tried to get his</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:39</time>
<p>attention but he was actually there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:40</time>
<p>filming a movie filming a movie and he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:43</time>
<p>was actually I think he was teaching</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:44</time>
<p>like some George Washington film</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:46</time>
<p>students I think it was Howard was it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:48</time>
<p>Howard I think it was Howard so but</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:49</time>
<p>there was like you could tell there were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:51</time>
<p>students there with him and he was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:52</time>
<p>talking them through probably some sort</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:55</time>
<p>of course or just like a guest for film</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:58</time>
<p>for something like that um but he was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:00</time>
<p>filming that movie that's now out</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:01</time>
<p>Michael Jordan yes letters from home or</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:05</time>
<p>something I think that's the movie yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:07</time>
<p>they were filming that right on the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:08</time>
<p>steps of the Lincoln Memorial which I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:11</time>
<p>didn't see my I don't remember seeing</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:12</time>
<p>Michael Jordan I don't think he was in</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:14</time>
<p>the scene and and the funny part was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:16</time>
<p>it's like when when you pointed Denzel</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:19</time>
<p>Washington now the only way I could tell</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:22</time>
<p>who he was because we were everybody was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:24</time>
<p>kind of still where a lot of people were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:25</time>
<p>still wearing masks even outside at the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:27</time>
<p>time</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:28</time>
<p>um but I could tell by his walk yes so I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:31</time>
<p>could tell by his by his walk I was like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:33</time>
<p>that's Denzel Washington I I don't I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:35</time>
<p>can't see his face because he's this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:38</time>
<p>guy's wearing a mask and a baseball cap</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:39</time>
<p>yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:40</time>
<p>um and it was pretty cold it was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:42</time>
<p>um so he was wearing a big thick jacket</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:44</time>
<p>but I could tell by his walk it's crazy</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:45</time>
<p>like you've seen someone in enough</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:47</time>
<p>movies that you could tell he kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:49</time>
<p>had that that Denzel walk yeah I had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:51</time>
<p>that Swagger and uh so that was that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:54</time>
<p>that was pretty cool it was pretty cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:55</time>
<p>and it was neat to see</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:57</time>
<p>the Lincoln I mean I've I every time we</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:59</time>
<p>go to the link Memorial I love it so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:01</time>
<p>16th president of course a great</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:04</time>
<p>emancipator you know you have the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:06</time>
<p>Gettysburg address on one side of the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:08</time>
<p>monument you have the Emancipation</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:10</time>
<p>Proclamation on the other side of the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:12</time>
<p>monument uh it was it's 36 columns for</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:16</time>
<p>the 36 States during the Civil War it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:19</time>
<p>was built from 1912 to 1922 and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:22</time>
<p>his son was there for the dedication and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:25</time>
<p>and we actually went there probably two</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:28</time>
<p>or three times while we were there so we</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:30</time>
<p>went there actually the night before was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:32</time>
<p>it the night before that we went there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:33</time>
<p>and you actually found the spot where</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:36</time>
<p>MLK stood yes so I I had no we went</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:41</time>
<p>there that day and I had seen it and we</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:43</time>
<p>took pictures of it we went back we went</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:45</time>
<p>back that night and people kept asking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:47</time>
<p>where it was and what they do there to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:51</time>
<p>make it so picturesque is they really</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:52</time>
<p>make it super dark on the steps and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:55</time>
<p>around and really lit up inside so the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:00</time>
<p>the statue really glows but you can't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:02</time>
<p>see much on the steps so I had to hold</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:04</time>
<p>my light for my cell phone yeah for</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:07</time>
<p>people because it's just cut into the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:08</time>
<p>marble that says Martin Luther King is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:10</time>
<p>it was is it cut into it or is it is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:12</time>
<p>there an actual marker no it's cut into</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:14</time>
<p>the marble it says Martin Luther King</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:15</time>
<p>stood here when he gave the I Have a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:17</time>
<p>Dream speech and so if you don't know</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:19</time>
<p>where it is you wouldn't be able to see</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:21</time>
<p>it yeah and so I I showed a couple</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:23</time>
<p>people that but it was so beautiful to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:25</time>
<p>go there at night yeah it was like if</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:27</time>
<p>you go there during the day do your best</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:29</time>
<p>to go back at night because it's it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:30</time>
<p>almost a different experience right</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:32</time>
<p>there's a little bit less people but</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:34</time>
<p>like you said they they they're very</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:36</time>
<p>intentional about their lighting setup</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:39</time>
<p>um in a quick aside that actually was a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:42</time>
<p>disadvantage to one of the people in the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:44</time>
<p>in the area when we were there so we</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:46</time>
<p>were we had gone inside I think we had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:48</time>
<p>done some additional filming yes taking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:50</time>
<p>some pictures or something like that and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:52</time>
<p>then all of a sudden like what did what</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:54</time>
<p>did we hear so we walked down</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:56</time>
<p>um some of the steps so you just need to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:58</time>
<p>be very aware the Lincoln Memorial is at</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:01</time>
<p>the head of the reflecting pool right</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:02</time>
<p>and around the reflecting pool is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:04</time>
<p>different levels of granite steps and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:07</time>
<p>you have to just be very aware of your</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:09</time>
<p>footing and your steps because like I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:10</time>
<p>said it's dark they make it dark so the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:13</time>
<p>Lincoln Memorial kind of glows and you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:16</time>
<p>can rent those bikes</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:18</time>
<p>e-bikes yes which are kind of plastic</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:20</time>
<p>bikes yeah and there were a couple guys</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:22</time>
<p>riding their bikes and all of a sudden</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:24</time>
<p>we hear this huge crash plastic and it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:29</time>
<p>ought to be perfectly honest it didn't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:30</time>
<p>sound like a crash it sounded like a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:32</time>
<p>small explosion I mean that was the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:34</time>
<p>first thing that popped across my mind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:35</time>
<p>maybe that's the military in me but I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:38</time>
<p>mean everybody stopped because it just</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:40</time>
<p>echoed yeah it was so loud and I think</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:44</time>
<p>he was riding on one level and all of a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:46</time>
<p>sudden it jumped up to be about chest</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:49</time>
<p>level granite and he just like and he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:51</time>
<p>plowed he plowed zero he probably didn't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:54</time>
<p>see it at all at all and I think it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:56</time>
<p>actually like it made it probably</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:57</time>
<p>damaged the bike pretty good some of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:17:59</time>
<p>them have like these like plastic</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:00</time>
<p>plastic box things on them or whatever</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:02</time>
<p>like that I think that's what caused the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:04</time>
<p>sound it's one of these plastic boxing</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:06</time>
<p>just kind of exploded off off of this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:08</time>
<p>and we were like oh my gosh what</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:11</time>
<p>happened but uh it turns out like you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:14</time>
<p>know he had some buddies with him and he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:15</time>
<p>ended up being okay he was okay we</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:17</time>
<p>checked don't worry we didn't just walk</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:18</time>
<p>away he was he was just shocked and that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:20</time>
<p>bike I think was destroyed but so just</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:24</time>
<p>be careful if you're out there at night</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:25</time>
<p>it's very dark it's beautiful it's safe</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:28</time>
<p>but you just need to be very aware of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:30</time>
<p>your footing especially around the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:32</time>
<p>Lincoln Memorial but it was so cool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:34</time>
<p>because you've seen it in movies a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:36</time>
<p>hundred times you've seen it in pictures</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:38</time>
<p>growing up and in in school books and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:41</time>
<p>stuff like that light of the museum like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:43</time>
<p>at Night at the Museum I kept thinking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:44</time>
<p>of Forrest Gump yeah right I kept</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:47</time>
<p>thinking of that like it was just so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:49</time>
<p>Sony Abraham Lincoln is seated and he</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:52</time>
<p>has like a passive</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:54</time>
<p>pose passive face kind of just looking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:56</time>
<p>out and he like I said it's the head of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:18:59</time>
<p>the reflecting pool so he is looking out</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:02</time>
<p>onto the Washington Monument like that's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:05</time>
<p>what he sees so it's it's just like a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:08</time>
<p>very head place of the monument yeah it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:12</time>
<p>was it was really really neat it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:13</time>
<p>actually surprisingly tricky to get an</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:15</time>
<p>Uber over there yes so you you just like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:18</time>
<p>now they all know like where to drop</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:19</time>
<p>people off and this that and the other</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:21</time>
<p>but trying to get get picked up like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:22</time>
<p>again you have to be super aware of kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:26</time>
<p>of where you're going to be and you like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:28</time>
<p>they're not just there's no common</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:29</time>
<p>stopping spot no you know so that you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:32</time>
<p>have to like just kind of you know up</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:34</time>
<p>your senses a little bit and it's a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:36</time>
<p>difficult City to drive yeah just be</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:38</time>
<p>aware yeah I would I would highly</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:39</time>
<p>recommend you know just taking an Uber</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:41</time>
<p>or taxi Metro whatever</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:43</time>
<p>um you I think we talked about this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:45</time>
<p>before the podcast you really can't park</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:47</time>
<p>and drive anywhere no not around the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:49</time>
<p>mall you might be able to do it like one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:52</time>
<p>end but even then like I don't know</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:54</time>
<p>where where you would park near the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:55</time>
<p>Jefferson Memorial no I think you might</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:57</time>
<p>have to just park maybe by the capitol</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:19:59</time>
<p>yeah and walk the other way and even</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:01</time>
<p>that's really difficult so just</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:03</time>
<p>recommend parking much further away Uber</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:06</time>
<p>Metro and Metro and then just just plan</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:08</time>
<p>on walking</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:09</time>
<p>[Music]</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:13</time>
<p>we stopped at the Vietnam memorial yes</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:16</time>
<p>and that's always powerful it is so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:20</time>
<p>Vietnam memorial looks like a V yep and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:23</time>
<p>it was built in 1982</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:25</time>
<p>it has 247 kind of like columns and it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:31</time>
<p>58</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:32</time>
<p>245 names of the people who gave their</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:36</time>
<p>lives in order of Life lost yeah and of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:40</time>
<p>course I stopped there and left a flag I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:41</time>
<p>have a friend whose father was killed</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:44</time>
<p>over Vietnam and he's still missing in</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:46</time>
<p>action so I left a flag for him and it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:49</time>
<p>it's people can leave anything there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:52</time>
<p>yeah and that's one of those places you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:54</time>
<p>will see wreaths you will see any</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:57</time>
<p>people have left there was a group that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:20:59</time>
<p>left a Harley there really I didn't know</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:01</time>
<p>that left a Harley motorcycle there holy</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:03</time>
<p>cow so you can leave anything there</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:05</time>
<p>you're allowed to leave anything out of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:08</time>
<p>that now I have all sorts of questions I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:11</time>
<p>know that's crazy awesome so like the DC</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:14</time>
<p>like mall I'll just call them janitors</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:17</time>
<p>like how the hell I don't even know how</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:19</time>
<p>to ride a bike right you're like how do</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:21</time>
<p>I get to start it gets probably sold I'm</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:23</time>
<p>sure the money donated or something like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:25</time>
<p>that but yes you're allowed to leave</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:27</time>
<p>anything one of the interesting was that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:29</time>
<p>the one that was designed by like a 25</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:31</time>
<p>year old architecture or student 21 year</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:34</time>
<p>old 21 year old that's that I found</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:37</time>
<p>super interesting simplistic and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:38</time>
<p>Powerful yeah because of the v-shape</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:40</time>
<p>yeah and then it has the three</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:42</time>
<p>servicemen statue in bronze from that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:44</time>
<p>was in a 1984. yeah it's kind of off to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:47</time>
<p>the side and those you know they're it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:50</time>
<p>the first African-American on the mall</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:52</time>
<p>yeah so that's a really neat one because</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:55</time>
<p>it kind of shows the Brotherhood of them</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:57</time>
<p>all to together and the shared hardship</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:21:59</time>
<p>kind of what that looked like is that is</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:01</time>
<p>that with the one with the nurses so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:03</time>
<p>there's also the nurses and that's close</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:05</time>
<p>by too and that was built in 1993. that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:07</time>
<p>was that was pretty neat and that's the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:09</time>
<p>three women nurses now it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:12</time>
<p>it's a little inaccurate because no</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:14</time>
<p>Vietnam nurses were ever in combat</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:16</time>
<p>that's right and so they're they're kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:18</time>
<p>of taking care of a wounded it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:20</time>
<p>symbolic it's symbolic right yes but</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:22</time>
<p>it's cool yeah so you have one like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:24</time>
<p>looking up probably looking for kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:25</time>
<p>like a air support sure and they're</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:27</time>
<p>another one's tending to like the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:29</time>
<p>wounded soldier and another one's kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:30</time>
<p>of like supporting both of them yeah so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:33</time>
<p>it's a very it's very cool but it's kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:36</time>
<p>of like a together in unity kind of idea</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:38</time>
<p>I think but what was neat that I never</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:41</time>
<p>had seen before was that World War II</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:42</time>
<p>Memorial</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:46</time>
<p>all right that was that was honestly my</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:50</time>
<p>favorite one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:51</time>
<p>I had never been to it I don't remember</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:53</time>
<p>seeing pictures of it but that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:55</time>
<p>honestly probably like one of the most</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:22:57</time>
<p>moving ones for me it was it was it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:00</time>
<p>huge and I think</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:03</time>
<p>one of the reasons that I think it might</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:05</time>
<p>have</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:06</time>
<p>not not be as common commonly known or</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:09</time>
<p>commonly seen in pictures these kids</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:10</time>
<p>kind of set down it's set lower it's set</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:13</time>
<p>it's set lower so you kind of walk and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:15</time>
<p>then you walk down into it and you kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:17</time>
<p>of don't even notice it if you're</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:19</time>
<p>looking at the reflecting pool it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:21</time>
<p>along the way to the monument Washington</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:24</time>
<p>Monument Washington Monument so it's not</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:26</time>
<p>it's not impeding The View right right</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:28</time>
<p>you can look past it and so you don't</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:30</time>
<p>really even know it's there unless</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:32</time>
<p>you're looking for it it was it was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:34</time>
<p>really really it's beautiful so it has</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:36</time>
<p>like two Pavilions one for the Atlantic</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:39</time>
<p>one for the Pacific so for each kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:41</time>
<p>front and then it has 56 pillars and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:45</time>
<p>they represent the states and the areas</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:48</time>
<p>and the you know the Sovereign countries</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:51</time>
<p>that fought in World War II yeah and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:54</time>
<p>then it has the stars for I think each</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:57</time>
<p>star represents a hundred Americans and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:23:59</time>
<p>this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:00</time>
<p>4048 stars and so all the lives that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:03</time>
<p>were lost yeah in World War II and it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:06</time>
<p>this big a kind of like water fountains</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:08</time>
<p>and you can go down and the nice thing</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:11</time>
<p>is like the kids loved it so you kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:13</time>
<p>walk down into this and the nice thing</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:15</time>
<p>is if it's windy you kind of get out of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:16</time>
<p>the wind a little bit so it's very it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:18</time>
<p>a little bit calmer down there minus the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:21</time>
<p>water yeah right and so it was just I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:23</time>
<p>was just caught completely flat-footed</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:26</time>
<p>when I got up to it I was like man this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:27</time>
<p>is is beautiful and it reminded me of my</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:29</time>
<p>grandparents yes right that generation</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:31</time>
<p>the greatest Generation</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:34</time>
<p>Um I I was just floored and honestly it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:37</time>
<p>probably was my favorite monument that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:39</time>
<p>we got to see relatively new 2004. yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:41</time>
<p>I didn't realize it was that new</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:42</time>
<p>military new but it's such a neat one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:44</time>
<p>and I would definitely recommend if you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:46</time>
<p>haven't seen that to stop and see yeah</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:49</time>
<p>and then from there you can is that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:50</time>
<p>where you walk right on to the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:52</time>
<p>Washington Monument yeah so of course</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:54</time>
<p>Washington Monument that was one of the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:24:58</time>
<p>first monuments ever to be built and it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:01</time>
<p>took forever it took from 1848 to 1888</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:04</time>
<p>because they stopped during the Civil</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:06</time>
<p>War yeah right that's right yeah they're</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:08</time>
<p>like hey guys we need money for the war</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:10</time>
<p>stop building the monument so people</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:12</time>
<p>always say the different color Stones</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:14</time>
<p>because they were 1812. no the different</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:16</time>
<p>color Stones is because they stopped</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:18</time>
<p>during the Civil War and then when they</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:20</time>
<p>went to Curry the Marvel they had to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:21</time>
<p>query from another place so that's what</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:23</time>
<p>the different color stones are for</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:25</time>
<p>um it was halted for 23 years they just</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:28</time>
<p>you know didn't cut the funds but it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:30</time>
<p>555 feet it's the tallest masonry</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:34</time>
<p>Obelisk and it has 50 flags around it</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:38</time>
<p>which are beautiful if they're all</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:40</time>
<p>pristine beautiful American flags at a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:43</time>
<p>certain circle it and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:46</time>
<p>it has so it's supposed to have like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:48</time>
<p>kind of this meaning</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:50</time>
<p>of the three branches of government</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:52</time>
<p>right because you can see the White</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:53</time>
<p>House from there you can see the capital</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:56</time>
<p>and then you're supposed to be able to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:25:58</time>
<p>see the Supreme Court</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:00</time>
<p>and so you're supposed to be able to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:01</time>
<p>represent the three branches are all</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:03</time>
<p>equal and you know what I have seen it a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:06</time>
<p>bunch of times driving by it again I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:07</time>
<p>think this is the first time I actually</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:09</time>
<p>walked all the way to it and you can</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:10</time>
<p>walk up to it and like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:13</time>
<p>touch it yeah like lean on it like the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:15</time>
<p>kids sat down really I for some reason</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:17</time>
<p>like in my head I just didn't think that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:19</time>
<p>right</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:21</time>
<p>um but that's that's actually the case</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:22</time>
<p>with most of these monuments is that you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:24</time>
<p>can just like walk right up and you can</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:26</time>
<p>lean up against it and you know sit down</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:27</time>
<p>and have lunch then</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:29</time>
<p>then you're good to go yeah it's I mean</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:31</time>
<p>it's there for you so after after the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:35</time>
<p>Washington Monument the reflecting pool</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:36</time>
<p>ends yeah and then the rest of the mall</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:38</time>
<p>is grass yeah and the capital is like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:40</time>
<p>behind yes you can keep walking there's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:42</time>
<p>more</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:43</time>
<p>to see like so the James Garfield</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:45</time>
<p>markers are further undone there's more</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:47</time>
<p>information and stuff to see yeah then</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:49</time>
<p>you're not far from the Smithsonian</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:50</time>
<p>Institute and all the great place to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:52</time>
<p>picnic and they always have food trucks</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:54</time>
<p>out there so it's just a really great</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:56</time>
<p>family yeah I think we wrapped it up</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:58</time>
<p>with there was they had an ice cream</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:26:59</time>
<p>which is great it was like I was like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:01</time>
<p>this is perfect I mean we were like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:03</time>
<p>exhausted right you know we had we had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:05</time>
<p>walked I mean our kids held in there and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:08</time>
<p>I think that's just because we were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:09</time>
<p>walking the entire time so I was super</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:10</time>

<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:16</time>
<p>to make as actually doing the event this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:18</time>
<p>we got to walk so much we got to see so</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:20</time>
<p>much we got to be walking through what's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:23</time>
<p>so iconic in our country and the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:27</time>
<p>National Mall is it's a bucket list trip</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:29</time>
<p>for a lot of people and we were no</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:27:31</time>
