<p>Welcome to talk with history.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:11</time>
<p>I'm your host Scott.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:12</time>
<p>And tonight I am not here with my wife and historian, Jen.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:15</time>
<p>Jenn is out of town.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:16</time>
<p>And so I thought for our 50th episode, we could look back on</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:19</time>
<p>some of our favorite episodes.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:21</time>
<p>Tonight, we're going to look back on some fun stories from guests</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:25</time>
<p>we've interviewed in the past.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:27</time>
<p>We'll start with Lisa from historical USA, talking about some very</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:31</time>
<p>exciting and interesting family history that caught us off guard.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:35</time>
<p>After that we'll look back on some world war II conversations we had</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:38</time>
<p>with Sarah, the history check 1941.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:41</time>
<p>And last, but certainly not least.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:43</time>
<p>We'll look back on some civil war, family history ties from</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:47</time>
<p>J D of the history underground.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:50</time>
<p>I hope you enjoy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:53</time>
<p>Okay.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:53</time>
<p>So you mentioned earlier my, my, one of my biggest hobbies is genealogy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:58</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:58</time>
<p>. Yep.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:00:59</time>
<p>I love genealogy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:00</time>
<p>I know a lot about my family history, and one of the things that I love to tell</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:04</time>
<p>people is that my great great grandmother</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:09</time>
<p>saw the shootout at the Okay corral.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:12</time>
<p>What, how awesome is that?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:15</time>
<p>was like 12 or 13.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:18</time>
<p>Her father worked for the silver mines.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:20</time>
<p>So Tombstone is a big mining town and that's, it's like, it's a boom town.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:24</time>
<p>And so, there was silver mine there and he was a silver miner</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:29</time>
<p>working for the silver mines.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:30</time>
<p>And I mean, you.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:32</time>
<p>I think tombstones an awesome</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:34</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:35</time>
<p>. Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:36</time>
<p>fun.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:36</time>
<p>It is.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:36</time>
<p>They have kept that western theme going up,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:39</time>
<p>Yeah, we still need to go.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:40</time>
<p>Yeah, we're gonna do</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:41</time>
<p>a walk with history from there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:42</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:43</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:43</time>
<p>Go to the bird cage, go to the courthouse.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:45</time>
<p>I mean, I've been there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:46</time>
<p>It's, it is it is a desert, desert town, but my grandmother, you</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:52</time>
<p>know, she was, she was there in tombstone when the, when the okay.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:54</time>
<p>Corral when that shootout happened.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:01:56</time>
<p>And the shootout is quite funny because, , you know, there is quite a buildup to it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:02</time>
<p>I mean, there is definitely hostilities happening in the town between the,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:06</time>
<p>the two groups, between the brothers and the, the wider and dock holiday.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:11</time>
<p>But the shootout lasts for like less than 30 seconds.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:15</time>
<p>And it's kind of, and it, it wasn't like out in the street, it was kind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:19</time>
<p>of like a ways off in an alley.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:22</time>
<p>and you can go and watch the, the recreation of it or the reenactment</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:25</time>
<p>of it, and it's like, boom.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:27</time>
<p>Oh wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:28</time>
<p>Wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:28</time>
<p>That, that, that's it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:31</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:32</time>
<p>you know, but it's the, but it's the history of the lead up.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:35</time>
<p>It's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:35</time>
<p>The lead up took a while.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:37</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:37</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:38</time>
<p>up</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:39</time>
<p>yes.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:39</time>
<p>Of this hostility.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:41</time>
<p>yeah, Wyatt Earp.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:42</time>
<p>And then the courthouse is really interesting too.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:45</time>
<p>There is a lot History behind there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:47</time>
<p>You can go there and find a lot of like ghost tours.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:50</time>
<p>You can take a lot of ghost tours there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:52</time>
<p>Like the bird cage is haunted as supposedly.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:02:54</time>
<p>And yeah, and all throughout Arizona you're gonna find these like cowboy towns</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:01</time>
<p>that they've kind of kept up a little bit.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:03</time>
<p>So, so your grandma was in Tombstone.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:05</time>
<p>How long did she live in Tombstone then?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:08</time>
<p>How long was she there in</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:10</time>
<p>so,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:10</time>
<p>your great, great great grandma,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:12</time>
<p>She got married very young.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:14</time>
<p>She actually married at 14.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:17</time>
<p>was probably, it was typical of the.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:19</time>
<p>yeah, she wasn't there for very long.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:21</time>
<p>Had a couple kids, but she moves to Yuma,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:24</time>
<p>Okay.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:25</time>
<p>Okay.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:25</time>
<p>or, or kind of outside, near the Walton area, a little outside Yuma, Arizona.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:30</time>
<p>And that's where my dad's family lived for a very long time.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:33</time>
<p>My grandparents were there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:34</time>
<p>So we would go to Yuma and there's, oh, and you can go to like if you've</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:37</time>
<p>ever seen the movie three 10 to.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:39</time>
<p>I love that movie.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:41</time>
<p>You so much.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:42</time>
<p>Yes.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:42</time>
<p>I love it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:43</time>
<p>I was gonna say that actually</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:44</time>
<p>yeah, you can go to the fort.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:46</time>
<p>I mean, the Yuma, Yuma Prison is still there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:49</time>
<p>And so you can go to the fort there and they have a graveyard and stuff,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:53</time>
<p>and you can kinda walk around and,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:55</time>
<p>So much history, Lisa.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:03:59</time>
<p>what do you remember?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:02</time>
<p>Learning about World War II when you were younger and maybe something</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:05</time>
<p>more that stands out to you now.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:06</time>
<p>Maybe your, your kind of favor, world War II history story or, piece of that era.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:11</time>
<p>So learning about it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:12</time>
<p>When I was young, it was, it was very basic school learning about.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:19</time>
<p>Yep.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:19</time>
<p>World War ii.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:21</time>
<p>We really didn't learn anything about the Pacific Theater.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:23</time>
<p>It was mostly the European theater.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:25</time>
<p>We learned Hitler came to power.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:28</time>
<p>He invaded Poland.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:29</time>
<p>We we got bombed by Pearl Harbor, and then we came into the war.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:32</time>
<p>And then then towards the end we learned about the Holocaust.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:36</time>
<p>So it really wasn't when I was much, much younger before I got into history,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:40</time>
<p>when we were learning about this.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:42</time>
<p>It wasn't, I didn't learn a lot about it, but.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:48</time>
<p>Learning about it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:48</time>
<p>As I especially got older and learning about how in depth World War II was,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:04:54</time>
<p>it's, it's crazy to me because also you have all of these different operations</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:01</time>
<p>and , in school we learned that it was pretty much the United States</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:05</time>
<p>and Britain who were in World War ii.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:06</time>
<p>There was nobody else involved.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:08</time>
<p>We were the victors.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:09</time>
<p>We were the only people that were in World War ii and so, We thought that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:13</time>
<p>for a long time, and then realizing how many different countries and</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:18</time>
<p>allies we had in World War ii.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:20</time>
<p>That's just like mind</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:21</time>
<p>blowing.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:22</time>
<p>right?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:22</time>
<p>Big one.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:23</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:23</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:24</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:25</time>
<p>. Well,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:26</time>
<p>We were friends.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:27</time>
<p>. Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:27</time>
<p>we, we were, we, were friends, but we were allies.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:31</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:31</time>
<p>But the thing with that is I think Russia kind of looked at whose side should</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:37</time>
<p>I be on, who is gonna get us farther?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:40</time>
<p>Who's gonna win the war.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:42</time>
<p>And so that's who they sided with.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:44</time>
<p>So that's why they sided with us.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:45</time>
<p>They're like, Germany's gonna lose.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:47</time>
<p>I'm gonna side with the United States and just kind of go with their thing</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:49</time>
<p>because they were looking at the long picture and, and the future.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:53</time>
<p>, interesting things that I've learned that I think is just probably one</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:05:57</time>
<p>of the most fascinating things is the deception tactics before D-Day.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:03</time>
<p>The whole deception tactics and that Hitler did think that we were</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:07</time>
<p>going to invade Pas de Calais.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:08</time>
<p>Like, and even when the D-Day landings happened and he heard</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:11</time>
<p>them happening, he still thought we were going to invade Pas de Calais.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:15</time>
<p>And that wasn't it at all, and which is why he kept the Panther Division up.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:20</time>
<p>Where it was supposed to be.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:22</time>
<p>And if, if he had sent in the Panzer division when they requested</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:25</time>
<p>it, de the d d-day could have turned out much differently.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:28</time>
<p>It's, those, those deception ta tactics were just absolutely insane.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:32</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:33</time>
<p>I love how you love that, Sarah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:34</time>
<p>And I think, you love the Ghost Army.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:36</time>
<p>You always talking about the balloons that they used and like</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:39</time>
<p>the deception that they used.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:40</time>
<p>And</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:40</time>
<p>I'm like, Sarah missed her calling in like Intel because they still, they yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:46</time>
<p>Don't, don't get me.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:48</time>
<p>yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:48</time>
<p>They still do that today.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:50</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:50</time>
<p>Governments still do that today.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:51</time>
<p>Army still do that today, believe me.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:53</time>
<p>And so it's very interesting that that's something that's very useful</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:06:57</time>
<p>and it's a tactic when you look at satellite pictures, is that real or</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:00</time>
<p>are they just trying to deceive us?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:02</time>
<p>It just.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:02</time>
<p>you're buying the balloons all the time of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:04</time>
<p>It is.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:04</time>
<p>They were, they were in, they were in, inflatable tanks</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:07</time>
<p>and it, it, the ghost Army was made up of artists and engineers.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:12</time>
<p>They weren't made up of, GI Joe combat soldiers, even though they, you know,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:16</time>
<p>they went through basic training and, and had some, had to learn combat and stuff.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:19</time>
<p>But they were.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:20</time>
<p>Artists and teachers and painters.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:23</time>
<p>And th that's what made up, yeah, made up the ghost army.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:27</time>
<p>And they just, these deception tactics of, creating whole fake</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:32</time>
<p>military encampments motor pools.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:34</time>
<p>They had ships like, and then the sound, the, the gigantic speakers</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:39</time>
<p>that would do sound of soldiers, footsteps and radio chatter.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:43</time>
<p>And they created fake insignia and went to town and started getting</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:45</time>
<p>all chummy with the town folks.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:47</time>
<p>Seen, so a spy was there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:50</time>
<p>They'd be like, oh no.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:51</time>
<p>Like this is one of Patton's, armies and ,all that stuff.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:54</time>
<p>It's just so crazy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:07:56</time>
<p>But I actually heard a very interesting story about England</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:00</time>
<p>and World War ii just the other day</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:02</time>
<p>. A story about a toy maker during World War II who was asked to make kind of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:07</time>
<p>like a scale size model of the coast of like all the, the English coast</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:12</time>
<p>in France and in the various coasts.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:15</time>
<p>By, by the, the British government.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:17</time>
<p>, by the army, by the Navy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:18</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:20</time>
<p>And so this toy maker, he's, he's making this kind of scale size</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:23</time>
<p>model of the coast, and he assumed right as so that they could do their</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:28</time>
<p>planning and this, that and the other.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:30</time>
<p>And so this toy maker finishes it up whenever it is.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:33</time>
<p>It's late at night, but he's, it's in a rush cuz everything, back then they</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:36</time>
<p>tried to, tried to do it now, now, now.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:38</time>
<p>So he had it in his, in the back of his truck driving up to the Portsmouth.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:43</time>
<p>and there's a midshipman.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:44</time>
<p>So this is someone who's not even technically like a, a</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:46</time>
<p>full blown naval officer yet.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:47</time>
<p>So there's a midshipman at, it's in the middle of the night, it's like midnight,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:51</time>
<p>who's kind of standing gate guard.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:54</time>
<p>And so they, they stop him there and they're, they're kind of looking,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:56</time>
<p>they're like, what are you bringing?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:08:57</time>
<p>He's like, oh, I'm bringing this, scale, size.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:00</time>
<p>Model or whatever like that of the coast and they, they look in the back, this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:03</time>
<p>midshipman, so he's, he's thinking, he's like, well, we don't need the whole coast.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:07</time>
<p>We just need</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:07</time>
<p>Normandy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:09</time>
<p>And then he realizes right then and there what he just said, cuz</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:11</time>
<p>Normandy was in like six months.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:14</time>
<p>So he's like, oh no, I just gave away</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:18</time>
<p>what's gonna happen in six months.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:20</time>
<p>No, I must lock you the two up for six months,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:22</time>
<p>. So that's exactly what they did.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:24</time>
<p>Hey, really?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:24</time>
<p>I just, I didn't even hear</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:25</time>
<p>Oh my</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:26</time>
<p>That's, exactly what they did.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:27</time>
<p>That's what they were like.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:29</time>
<p>Bring your stuff on in and that guy didn't leave the base for</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:33</time>
<p>six months until after Normandy.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:36</time>
<p>You've seen too much . This is this, I, I, apparently it's like a legit true story.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:41</time>
<p>I tried to look it up online earlier today.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:43</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:43</time>
<p>and I couldn't find it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:44</time>
<p>So maybe this is one of those like, kind of urban legends that's been passed down,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:48</time>
<p>in the Navy or in the military over there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:50</time>
<p>But I believe it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:51</time>
<p>I believe it cuz I believe him at Shipman would be that dumb.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:53</time>
<p>Talk about a crazy story, right</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:55</time>
<p>That is Well, I</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:56</time>
<p>and it, and.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:09:57</time>
<p>And, and to your point into like all the deception and this, that and the other.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:02</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:02</time>
<p>, that stuff was like really tightly controlled cuz it was so important at the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:06</time>
<p>time and no one knew who the spies were.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:09</time>
<p>Right.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:09</time>
<p>The spies were so deeply embedded.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:10</time>
<p>Right.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:11</time>
<p>Both sides really feel p grounded in their cause.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:15</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:15</time>
<p>Right.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:15</time>
<p>The Nazis feel very grounded there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:17</time>
<p>Cause the British feel, Americans feel.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:20</time>
<p>, the spies are deeply embedded, right?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:23</time>
<p>And so, yeah, you have to really be careful of who you're talking to.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:29</time>
<p>So what's a bit of regional history that you think might fall into that category?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:33</time>
<p>Like I said, I grew up in Missouri and we got a little,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:35</time>
<p>we've got civil war history here.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:37</time>
<p>. Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:37</time>
<p>But it's, it's different than the Civil War history, like out where</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:42</time>
<p>you all are on the East Coast.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:43</time>
<p>Sure.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:44</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:44</time>
<p>We, out on the East coast, there's a lot of, big huge epic battles and, . the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:49</time>
<p>formations that you typically think of.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:51</time>
<p>Whenever you watch Civil War movies out here, , it was just a lot of</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:54</time>
<p>bush wacking and burning people's farms down and country bands.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:10:59</time>
<p>More people more spreading, all banned.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:00</time>
<p>It was, yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:01</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:01</time>
<p>I have an ancestor who was has kind of a neat story.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:05</time>
<p>There's a, there's a highway state highway, oh, it's</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:08</time>
<p>probably about 30 miles from me.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:10</time>
<p>And off on the side of the road there's a confederate grave marker and Oh wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:16</time>
<p>It says here, the bodies of three unknown Confederate soldiers.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:22</time>
<p>Well, my great, great great grandma buried those men in, in that grave.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:29</time>
<p>Wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:29</time>
<p>Wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:29</time>
<p>And there's actually two, the, the grave markers wrong.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:31</time>
<p>There's, there's actually two in there instead of three.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:33</time>
<p>But, but the story is her husband was off to war.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:37</time>
<p>This whole area was filled with a bunch.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:39</time>
<p>Confederate gorillas and mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:42</time>
<p>, it, it was just bordering on anarchy around here.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:46</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:46</time>
<p>is a dangerous place to be, but.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:49</time>
<p>She overnight would run supplies through the lines.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:53</time>
<p>Yep.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:53</time>
<p>Because women, they,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:55</time>
<p>they were suspected woman.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:57</time>
<p>It's an article about Missouri women running.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:11:59</time>
<p>Oh, I have to check that out.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:01</time>
<p>Oh, really?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:02</time>
<p>I, I, I have to say, yeah, I'll have to send it to you.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:03</time>
<p>J I read it in grad school, so I have it.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:06</time>
<p>I had to read it for school.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:06</time>
<p>School.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:07</time>
<p>I would love to</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:07</time>
<p>see that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:08</time>
<p>. Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:08</time>
<p>So, so yeah, my, my great-great-great grandma would've been one of those women.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:12</time>
<p>That's awesome.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:12</time>
<p>So she was getting like quinine medicine and mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:15</time>
<p>, food supplies and stuff like that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:16</time>
<p>Holy cow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:17</time>
<p>Holy cow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:17</time>
<p>And smuggling them back and forth across the lines.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:19</time>
<p>Well, one day she came across these dead Confederate soldiers and knew that</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:25</time>
<p>if these confederate gorillas came.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:28</time>
<p>Found these dead confederates that they would likely come into the</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:31</time>
<p>town and burn it down or hang some of the men or something like that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:36</time>
<p>And they said that she was a, a short woman but, but real strong and, spunky.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:40</time>
<p>And so, so she buried those men they're at, at that grave.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:44</time>
<p>And,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:45</time>
<p>That's awesome.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:45</time>
<p>Did you do a yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:46</time>
<p>So, so how, so did you do an episode?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:48</time>
<p>? Not yet.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:48</time>
<p>I'm, I'm going to, oh, at some</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:50</time>
<p>point.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:50</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:50</time>
<p>So, so was that kind of like a, I, that's like the perfect example.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:55</time>
<p>Family, like regional, local, family history, family, right?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:57</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:12:57</time>
<p>that's like super local, super hyper relevant.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:00</time>
<p>So was that just kind of like a family story that was</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:02</time>
<p>kind of just verbally passed</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:04</time>
<p>down?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:05</time>
<p>Yep.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:05</time>
<p>That, that was one of my grandpa.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:06</time>
<p>My grandpa took me out there and showed me whenever I was really young how cool.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:09</time>
<p>Turkey gun and.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:12</time>
<p>in, in Missouri.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:13</time>
<p>You you have to stop hunting at one o'clock.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:15</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:16</time>
<p>So after one o'clock we got done Turkey hunting and he said, Hey</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:19</time>
<p>he said, let's run out here and I'm gonna show you something.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:22</time>
<p>And I was, I was five years old.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:28</time>
<p>Wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:28</time>
<p>Whenever he took me out there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:30</time>
<p>And it, it was really funny.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:32</time>
<p>I hadn't been back.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:33</time>
<p>My grandpa passed away a couple years ago.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:35</time>
<p>But I wanted to, to show my.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:38</time>
<p>and yeah, I wa I was able to take them right back to that spot.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:42</time>
<p>Like it had that much of an impression on me.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:43</time>
<p>Oh, wow.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:44</time>
<p>So I had been there, over 35 years yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:47</time>
<p>But was able to take 'em back.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:49</time>
<p>That, that's, and that's so interesting too, that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:53</time>
<p>, the, the more, again, from the, the non-story buff guy here.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:56</time>
<p>Right.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:13:57</time>
<p>The more I learn about history, and we either come across memorials mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:01</time>
<p>or monuments, and Jen is educating me multiple times because she talks</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:06</time>
<p>about it before we go and then we have to record it, and then I'm editing.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:09</time>
<p>And so I, so I actually learned a lot more history than than I ever expected.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:12</time>
<p>But I, but I learned.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:14</time>
<p>Not just the famous battles, not just the big names that we all hear about, right?</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:20</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:21</time>
<p>, the, the generals and the, pickets charge mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:23</time>
<p>and this, that, and the other, but also all the, the supporters</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:26</time>
<p>and, and the, the women.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:28</time>
<p>And the kids.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:29</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:29</time>
<p>and the communities and what they did during these monumental</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:33</time>
<p>times and these dangerous times.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:36</time>
<p>I mean, your great-great-great grandma was like a super badass.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:39</time>
<p>She's burying guys in the middle of the night.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:42</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:42</time>
<p>To protect her town.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:43</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:43</time>
<p>Because she knew that there would be retribution if they were found.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:47</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:48</time>
<p>Yep.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:48</time>
<p>So, so to me, that's the kind of stuff that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:51</time>
<p>Until you really kind of get to kind of live in some of this, this</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:55</time>
<p>history stuff, or you watch some, some of the good, videos that I'll</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:14:58</time>
<p>say, well, the three of us make No, I'll just throw that out there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:01</time>
<p>I think we're working to get up to your level, jd, we're getting there.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:03</time>
<p>I know, but,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:04</time>
<p>I think your stuff is great.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:06</time>
<p>Thank you.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:06</time>
<p>Thank you.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:07</time>
<p>The, if, if you get to watch, that's, that's one of the things that I've really</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:10</time>
<p>enjoyed, I, I have enjoyed about doing this history stuff is, is learning those</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:16</time>
<p>little tidbits and seeing like, man, there's, there's so many more key players</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:21</time>
<p>in these large historical events and times and periods than we ever really realized.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:26</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:26</time>
<p>that a lot of people realize and, and your family.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:29</time>
<p>Right.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:30</time>
<p>You're you've got family that, that Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:32</time>
<p>Are point directly to that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:34</time>
<p>That's a great,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:34</time>
<p>that's really good.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:35</time>
<p>I'll find that article for you cuz I, it probably even, you'll be surprised,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:38</time>
<p>like, this mentions my grandma . Oh man.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:41</time>
<p>If it does, that'll be one.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:43</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:44</time>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:44</time>
<p>But I don't know if it just in, it is kind of interesting as we've been</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:48</time>
<p>sitting here talking, I didn't even think about this until just a little bit ago.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:52</time>
<p>But if you'll notice whenever I'm talking about where I've learned</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:55</time>
<p>a lot of my history and, and stuff like that, I haven't really</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:15:59</time>
<p>mentioned anything about a classroom.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:01</time>
<p>A lot of it are, are people in my family or friends or things like that who mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:05</time>
<p>, took an.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:07</time>
<p>and, and invested in me and passed these stories down to me or, or</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:11</time>
<p>took me to places that would help.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:13</time>
<p>Mm-hmm.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:14</time>
<p>would help spark my interest.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:15</time>
<p>So yeah, there's, there's definitely a place for classroom learning</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:18</time>
<p>and, and everything like that.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:19</time>
<p>And I think that's important.</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:20</time>
<p>But, we're, we're the biggest part of my learning has taken place,</p>
<p></p>
<cite>Speaker:</cite>
<time>00:16:24</time>
<p>has been outside of a classroom.</p>
<p></p>
